North Pantanal

To the northern region of the Pantanal, the access is made from the city of Cuiabá, Mato Grosso. Here, the operation is done through the Transpantaneira highway with 147 km of dirt road and 120 wooden bridges, connecting the cities of Poconé and Porto Jofre. Along the road there are good lodging options, and good areas to explore the most diverse environments and Pantanal habitats.

         Because of the proximity to the Amazonrainforest, in addition to the rich avifauna associated to the fields and waters of the Pantanal, some characteristic bird species of the Amazon biome can be found, such as the Sunbittern (Eurypiga helias), the Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao) the Agami Heron (Agami Agamia), and other specialty that is not in the southern Pantanal: the Chestnut-bellied Guan (Penelope ochrogaster).

       The last stop of Transpantaneira, Porto Jofre, it is currently the world´s main destination for observing Jaguars. In the rivers, scanning an area with an incredible density of this cat, jaguars apparently accustomed to the presence of boats that used to attend the region for fishing. Because of this, today there are great chances of finding one of these cats in boat trips on the river and the animals often allow excellent opportunities for observation and photography.
